We've set up a studio and workshop space with our sister project Kaboom which now runs Rhythm Tap & Improv Comedy Workshops and has had local musicians in the studio to record. The project has now reached out to a local theatre space and the criminal justice system where we deliver Improv Comedy as part of a wellbeing & mental health programme.
Alongside this we have been building our sound & set, worked with a double bassist and now settled with new bassist Dan who has really rooted our sound. We're really excited about the new year with lots of songs and ideas coming through.
Throughout the year we've also been plugging away at an album, which is now a couple of songs from being finished. Again we are really happy with its direction and all songs were drawn from favourites of the previous year's tour. We look to finish the album in late February - in the meantime watch out for the odd video that might pop up! We are currently in Barcelona, using the time and sun light to also film footage for one that we hope to release in a few weeks.

Some great gigs are round the corner where we hope to see you soon & remember if you want to see us play at your local venue - give them a nudge or let us know where and hopefully we can make something happen!
Here's a facebook video with the fiery fun of our last gig.

Have a great break!
X Kid Hyena X

Kid Hyenatag:kidhyena.com,2005:Post/73050852023-11-17T07:35:21-05:002023-11-17T07:35:21-05:00Everybody Here Loves Pablo
Hello Autumn souls!
We have been quiet for a while, busy in the background and on the road. So excited to share news with you all.

Following the release of our new album ‘It Takes Courage to be Happy’ single by single, we have 2 new songs to share with you.

First one, crowd favourite ‘Everybody Here Loves Pablo’ is a song which has taken on many different forms before we settled on the version today. The lyrics of this song were written back when all the ‘Brexit’ issues started to appear on the forefront of the news. Matt, having been away from the country for many years, started to create the seed for these lyrics from a place of sadness and disappointment towards everything that was happening in the UK. Having finalised the lyrics, still in Spain, we had several goes at it with different sounds and set ups. It worked very well onstage, but we felt it never had its defined style that suited the words. It was only after coming back to the UK (already with Brexit in place), and after traveling around the country with our tour, that Matt rediscovered the people of his roots, and I had a chance to get to know this country and its people from a different perspective, to come to the understanding of how beautifully diverse and culturally rich the UK is. This country embraces difference and celebrates uniqueness in a way that not many other countries do. And with this feeling, the song of ‘Everybody Here Loves Pablo’, was reshaped to be a celebration of diversity. Now with an upbeat, festive and fun approach, the song is always received with a big smile on people’s faces & dancing feet as they engage with that feeling of celebration.

The second song we have recently published is ‘Path of Resistance’. This song was written during the pandemic, already in the UK. The initial seed of this song is very similar to the one you can hear today. The only difference is that when we wrote it, it was more of a mellow / soft approach. But once it got tested live, it felt crazy how the song was going through us with a particular force which we didn’t at first recognise, and made the audience dance and bounce in a way that we hadn’t expected. This caught us by surprise and we felt that the song was like a wild horse with it's own force, personality and energy pushing itself forward to it's own destiny . The lyrics are a call for not necessarily following the path that seems easy and that is presented in front of you, if not to dig deeper and to follow truly what moves you inside, what keeps your fire burning. This path will not always be necessarily easy, but when things get into place, it is full of empowerment and anything becomes possible. The lyrics are like a conversation that I am having with my younger self, encouraging me to follow my instinct, even though not always that would mean the most obvious thing to do.

So yes, when you can visit the streaming services - hunt our music down, turn up the volume, and immerse yourself with these songs! And even better, check our gigs list and come to listen and dance to them live!

This takes us to another set of news, which is that Milo is not longer with us. Due to incompatible times and trickiness in rehearsing and gigging together, we have decided to go different ways. We would like to warmly say goodbye and if you have seen him play you would he brought truly innovative playing to the double bass this year. Also unseen and worthy of a massive round of applause was his ability to help keep the spirit of hitching alive and hitch to random corners of the Kid Hyena universe and in turn keep the gigs going.

On the other side, we welcome Dan, our new bassist, who has already been onstage with us once and that since he joined the band he has already transformed our sound, taking the music to a fresh new place. We are super happy to start this journey with him! We met Dan after a loud and fun gig at the Millbridge in Plymouth, just one day after we decided to part ways with Milo, Dan randomly came to our gig, and when we finished he approached us with a big smile saying he had loved the set and that he was a bassist! A serendipitous encounter for sure!

Lately we've had a few great gigs with some new songs included in the set and presently as if from nowhere we've got another 7 we are working on. We've also recorded another two songs for the album ‘A Tale of Two’ and ‘The Open Road’, these will go live on streaming services in around three weeks but for you lovely blog readers you can find them waiting here for you alongside the others in full HD rather than squashed, compressed versions that Mr Streaming delivers.

Final gigs of the year are in Plymouth, before we head off for some Barcelona winter sun (we hope)

Stay tuned!

X M & M X

P.S Are you from Plymouth or neighbouring towns ? villages? If so, Check out our sister project KABOOM! We have some great weekly workshops going on and a new courses starting.
Kid Hyenatag:kidhyena.com,2005:Post/72688432023-09-05T06:49:03-04:002023-10-16T11:00:28-04:00I'm Losing Myself in You - New Single Release!
Hola, Hope you had an amazing August!

Our 4th single “I’m Losing Myself in You” was released a couple of weeks ago on all streaming services and we hope you have been listening to it already, if not, make your way here, turn on the volume, and get lost with the bewitching melodies of deep passion & attraction.

This song has quite a long history as it was written in Barcelona in the early days when Matt moved there and was exploring of the city, which is so very inviting to have on your doorstep and at the same time it can feel like a big burst of intensity thrown into the mix of your life. He feels the city could easily be the lover in the song.

As a band the song took on many different shapes, we even had different incredible singers using their unique style to sing it. Specially I can remember Lethu, South African soul singer who would bend each and every note with a smoothness that made you feel as if you were floating on candy floss; and Sarita, a Spanish flamenco singer who was using the melodies with a very broken smooth and sharp edge which brought the song into new dimensions. For a while we had a version where the crowd were singing along throughout the whole song. But it was during the pandemic, missing the crowd input, when we were rehearsing for live streaming gigs, that this version came along. I started to explore with different effects on the melodica and that was the seed of the version you can hear today. Recovered once again for our live set, this is a very well received song which brings the audience closer to us with a smooth swing of the hips.

Whilst writing these words we are getting ready for the gigs in September (which you can find listed on a recent post on our socials - but we can’t forget how fun, diverse and incredible August has been! With very different audiences but always very receptive, welcoming, attentive and joyful! So thank you to all of you for supporting us on this crazy journey that keeps us with our spirits up… always thirsty for more!

Thanks also to all the booking agents and promoters for having us at Outcider Festival, The Butcher’s Dog in Wimborne & Poole, Mic Records in Brighton, the Ipswich folk at The Halberd Inn (with a special mention to Purple Loft), the beautiful wedding of Brian & Emma at The Banham Barrel in Norfolk, Sun & Moon Festival, The Winchester Gate in Salisbury & The Bell Inn in Bath!

If you have in mind a venue which would be suitable for us, please let us know as we always love travelling and discovering new corners of the country with its amazing people

Hope to see you at a gig!
X M & M X

Kid Hyenatag:kidhyena.com,2005:Post/72498722023-07-31T10:01:11-04:002023-09-05T07:58:43-04:001973 - Woof!

Hello howling souls,
Our 3rd single ‘1973’ is out now on all streaming services. (Listen on Spotify here)

This song has been on a long journey! From writing the lyrics back in Tenerife in between lockdowns, tapping away the beat of its message, to first playing it in a Fish & Chips corner pub through to Glastonbury Festival, hearing the howls of the depth of the towns and cities across the country, running a growling and howling competition (so far, Boscombe in Dorset still at the top)… now you can finally hear it on your device and howl your way out of the political madness we are currently living! The song was also interwoven with Matt's battle with long Covid that left him with a speech impediment. With it's face paced delivery and others like it that he wrote in Tenerife, it inspired him to keep pushing onwards and conquer the problem. From not being able to deliver two sentences correctly together to singing the entire song without error took many months but thankfully he got there in the end.

This single is the 3rd song of our album ‘It takes courage to be happy’ that we are slowly publishing across the weeks. If you haven’t listened to the previous ones, go and check them out as they are also crowd favourites ‘The Man who Sold the Moon’ and ‘Living to Tell the Tale’.

Our next single will be out soon with the bewitching melodies of ‘I’m losing Myself in You’ - keep an eye on our socials to make sure you don’t miss out! With really bouncy, receptive, attentive and fun audiences around Plymouth at The Ship Inn, The Pigs Nose Inn in East Prawle with their fancy hats, the very well curated event of WonderZoo at Cafe M0mus, and the amazing vibes at the Tropical Pressure Festival, where as well as playing a gig we ran a Body Percussion workshop which was a total blast.

We are so happy with how it sounds & we can’t wait to share it with you all! It’s been a very interesting journey recording in our new studio, understanding the room deeper and its sweet spots. With all the time in the world and the enthusiasm of recording the song as it is one of the crowd's favourites, we think we have captured a very warm, uplifting and harmonic sound that we hope it reaches many ears around the world!

‘The Man Who Sold the Moon’ is one of our newest songs, written last autumn, it quickly took its own shape with all the different elements. It’s been a pleasure working with it as it has been one of these songs that seem to fall from the sky and all the ideas thrown at it work just really nicely.

Please spread the love around and make sure to watch this space as we will now be releasing a song every 2 weeks. You will find the songs on all streaming services and our website.

The other bit of exciting news is that we are off to Glastonbury Festival this week! We had a top time last year but this year promises to be even better as we have been given very good gig slots. If you are around & have any extra time in that musical odyssey, come to dance with us! We will be playing at the Small World Stage on Friday 9pm, on Saturday we will be playing at 9pm at the Green Room of the Circus area, and late at night in the fantastic, bonkers & definitely adventurous experience of the Piano Bar. We have unforgettable memories from last year's gig there, it was like being thrown into a lion’s den - we survived and we’re back…who knows what will happen next time!

Since our last newsletter we have been playing around Cornwall, Devon & Dorset, and have started the summer festival season with a great set and beautiful audience at Freezone Festival in Wimborne. Last night we had a lovely gig sharing the stage with latin singer Anairda & The Anarkistas at Patchwork Studios, what a great spot that is! If you’ve never been there, make sure you make some time this summer to have a real Cornish camping experience where live music is treated with alot of care and attention.

Check our website for future gigs as again we have a very busy June & July moving around the beautiful landscapes of Cornwall, Devon & Dorset. Come and say hi, you will for sure have a great time! A great venue with a lovely campsite, a restaurant cooking beautiful vegan food cooked from the heart, and just a short drive/walk to a great surf spot!
Happy New Year to you all and welcome to the new members!

We hope you’ve all had a lovely Xmas and that 2023 manifests what you have envisioned with loads of positive vibes.

We have been pretty quiet on the main front but very busy on the backstage with the new place we start calling home. Plymouth has been showing us many different interesting layers and warm energy from its people.

First and foremost, we would like to introduce to all of you our new band member, double bassist Milo. It’s quite funny how everything came to be with him, as we had wanted to work with a double bassist for a long time and just felt that the right moment and person would manifest eventually. We met his lovely parents - founders and amazing musicians from Baka Beyond - during the tour, and shared time together with him at Glastonbury festival. When we played in Plymouth in the summer, Milo and Maya (his funky italian partner) helped us to fall in love with the city. After a few weeks of moving here, we remembered that Milo is a double bassist. And from then the fun started happening. Milo has seamlessly contributed to the songs in a very playful, musical, rhythmical and expressive way which has brought the songs into another plane. The Gigs have been so much fun & even more energised! Keep an eye on our socials and website as we are busy booking more local and nationwide dates!

The new instrument means that we have been looking at songs differently, and we have been writing new tunes which have been so much fun playing live whilst taking another look at other older ones. Gigs with people bouncing and singing along are our favourites, and these have been the ingredients of our gigs so far of 2023… so make sure you get your dancing shoes on and come to share your moves with us!

With this new concept, our next recording steps are starting to happen slowly but steadily using our new music studio which you can find at Leadworks, Stonehouse, under the name of ‘Planet Road Studio’, Kaboom!. Matt has been busy recording some local artists which has been super exciting, hearing the stories of empowerment and transformation of the community is what brings us closer to this little corner of the world with incredible people in it.

If you are interested about knowing what’s going on with the studio, check the website here - www.kaboomhub.com

Everything is done with a pay what you feel basis.

Through Kaboom! we have also started running workshops on Improv’ Comedy, Singing & Tap Dancing. Maybe it’s something you would like to try!?

We look forward to seeing you at our gigs, our next one is in Bridport on the 28th of January, if you are there or have friends around, let them know we will be making some noise, last time we were there we were promised a big dancing crowd!

Have a great week everyone, and more, wishing you all a fruitful, creative and musical 2023!

Hope to see you at a gig,

♥ M x M x M ♥

P.S. - If you think you can help us get a gig in your local area, we would be more than happy to hear from you!
Kid Hyenatag:kidhyena.com,2005:Post/70899462022-10-27T14:51:02-04:002023-12-10T13:08:29-05:00Wild Gravity & Spirit of Love!
How's it going? We've just recently completed one year on the road. It's been quite literally more than we could have imagined. Also as we started in September 2021, in many ways beautiful to see life slowly open out again after the pandemic. We've met so many lovely people on the way and had enough experiences for a lifetime it feels. That said, the time has come to finally put down some roots and after falling in love with the place on tour we have chosen Plymouth, where we aim to open a studio and crack on with some writing and recording whilst engaging with the wider community there with a new project called Kaboom.
We just recently finished a tour diary video alongside a new song called 'Wild Gravity' - you can watch it here. We've now got a really high energy set with lots of tap and body percussion fused with dynamic songs that draw from a myriad of influences.
It's been an exciting time been able to delve deeper into the songwriting process & next month in Bristol we are happy to connect with independent label ‘Phat' to produce a live set of videos with acoustic studio production - we've got a great producer on board so really looking forward to sharing the results with you.

Our surprise acoustic turn of direction also means we are putting our new album on hold, part of the reason being that with some perspective we feel a drummer working alongside the samples, synths, bass and tap will create a much more dynamic sound. With it close to being finished the temptation is to carry on, yet we feel the songs will be best served with patience and the right drummer.

So it looks like our next release will be acoustic in essence, we are looking at the possibility of an E.P early next year featuring crowd favourites from the early part of this tour - watch this space!
You can listen to one of our latest acoustic tracks here on our Soapbox 21 series.
Hand of a Slave is a song that has been reimagined and forms part the album / soundtrack of our graphic novel project <a contents="‘The Well of the Wolves’.
Since our last mail we have finally begun our ‘Planet Road UK Tour’ in the motorhome ‘Jupiter’ & we are absolutely stoked to be on the road.

All has been going well apart from a minor collision with a bank has seen the motorhome need some urgent repairs.

We started with a radio show at CCR in Chelmsford with DJ Shakey who has been championing our music since our arrival here, we chatted about the many things and played a few acoustic songs. You can hear it here.

Our first port of call for a gig was Coda bar in Colchester supporting the excellent disco post punk of Foxtrot Oscar, although we felt a bit rusty our gig was well received and we were humbled by the comments we received after the show. We hope to be back to Colchester soon.

We followed this up with an acoustic show in what is essentially a fish and chip / bar in Dereham. Some local press and a 60th birthday ensured a pretty good crowd that gave us a really warm reception. We sang songs from our ‘Soap box 21’ project and a few older tunes. With a few Tottenham fans in the house one song ‘Peasant Life’ went down especially well.

Next up was a one man and his dog showcase slot at the ‘Brickmakers’ in Norwich. Big stage, great sound and ummmmm 2 people yet they were so enthusiastic about our project after our show that we could only walk away feeling positive about things. We were back there on saturday for an acoustic slot with three other acts and a much better gig. It was one of those life affirming nights that I think everyone needed - awesome!

We are now excited to deliver a music & expression workshop for refugees with Norwich International Youth Propject and then another with Vision Norfolk where will be delivering a workshop for the visually impaired. Because of the pandemic we have been unable to deliver this style of workshop for two years, it is as much a part of us as playing a gig so we really look forward to it.

If anyone is reading this in the UK or with friends in the UK, please get in touch if you would like a community workshop delivered in your area by us. More info can be found here.

Behind the scenes we have been preparing further to complete our fourth album, the last four songs have been chosen and now it has tentative title of ‘Poets in Jeopardy’. The last songs most definitely make it more upbeat and snappier than our last whilst still sounding like it could be a sister album to it. We are aiming for a spring 2022 release - watch this space.

Although we have not been posting recently on social media about it, the graphic novel project we are involved in is also edging forwards with artist ‘Oriol Tuca’ continuing his magnificent work preparing the story for publishing presentation.
Hello! This past month we have been finding secret & magic spots around the Chiltern hills to practice and also to film some of the acoustic fruits via our ‘Soap Box 21’ video creators blog series.

The videos from last month are quite varied, starting with ‘Learning how to Fall’. The lyrics of this song were written by Matt way back when we were in Barcelona . He got the inspiration after speaking with a younger friend talking about life experiences, ups & downs, and when during the course of conversation the friend said 'growing up is overrated', Matt saw the light for a new song to be. It didn’t really have any kind of shape until last year, when during lockdown we wrote and recorded an electric version that was played several times on the radio. But even though it had been well received there was always a feeling it could be better.
After some re-thought, Matt found a different guitar line for it, and the tap dance came very swiftly with the fluid melody and new rhythmic opportunities. We prefer this version, the lightness of touch seems to suit the lyrics better.
You can watch the video here.

Another song that has appeared in the blog series is ‘She talks in her Sleep’. Originally performed by our first band together ‘Three Colours Red’ (Pic at bottom of page), together with Sofia Granato, this song brings a nostalgic feeling of fun times from our beginnings together. Sporadically Matt one day started playing it and this rainy day video is what came out after a few practices.

The last song filmed over this period of time has been ‘Peasant Life’. Written by Matt in our days in Tenerife last winter after he bought a new classical guitar. This song is like a portal that opened up a completely new lyric and song-writing approach. Dancing to it and finding the steps was a lot of fun. I have to say, I need to recuperate my breath quite a lot in between practices of this song, so it feels good when we get it right! Here it is, filmed in a very naturally reverberating spot we found in the woods - take number 7.

On another creative aspect, our Musical Graphic Novel ‘The Well of the Wolves’ is continuing it's evolution! Artist ‘Oriol Tuca’ has now completed the promotional material and he is now deep in the design of the first 12 pages to present to publishers. With it, an amazing oil painted poster is on the way, we can’t wait to share it with all of you. At our end, together with writer ‘David Finch’ we are polishing the scripts of the first Issues of Volume 1 and also completing the production of the title track. We aim to have everything ready to present to publishing houses by Christmas. It has been a long, long road to get this far and this is only the beginning, it feels really exciting to see it shaping up… we are sure you will love it!

Now we are getting ready for our Autumn / Winter 'Planet Road Tour' in the campervan. We will begin in the beautiful area of Norfolk which we can’t wait to explore & after that we move onto Sussex then Bristol. Keep an eye on our social media and website for updates. 25% of tour proceeds will go to the magnificent 'War Child' who do so much to protect children. Across the tour as well as gigs we will be providing community workshops, if you are reading this post and have any contacts in the areas mentioned please get in touch.

Finally for this month is our coming recording session in September. After recording 6 songs at Card Trick Music Studios in Chelmsford with 'Josh Abbott', we will be making steps to finishing our 4th album by recording another 4 more tracks.
The album so far is certainly close in style to our 3rd album ‘Gravitate' but also in some way sonically different and more direct.
We don’t have a release date quite yet but it looks like it may see the light of day in early 2022.

Thanks for tuning in, Keep up the summer spirit!
M & M X

(Pic Below - Three Colours Red - Barcelona 2010)

Kid Hyenatag:kidhyena.com,2005:Post/66884872021-07-15T03:56:24-04:002023-12-10T13:08:28-05:00REBEL HEART CLUB

Deep into the summer we've got a lot of clarity in our minds and lots of music flowing.

This past month we have been re-connecting with our acoustic sound, playing here and there and everywhere where we can with our camper, creating new songs & rescuing some old songs giving them new shapes, redefining old lyrics and giving them new melodies.
With this process, we published another song on our ‘Soap Box 21’ series, called ‘Only Angels Grow Wings’. Matt started strumming a very delicate melody on the guitar, and singing this line with his falsetto fragile and emotive voice, when I quickly ran to my notebook and found the right lyrics to go with it. I started raping in spanish, we were happy with the result, but it wasn’t quite there… then Matt suggested to me translate the lyrics into English, and I absolutely loved the experience! It was the first time I had attempted to do it. You can hear what was the seed of the song in this video, now the lyrics and structure are more defined and completed. Wanna hear it finished? Come to one of our tour gigs! ;)

On this note, we have started planning the ‘Planet Road’ Tour which will start in mid September, we will hit the road towards Norfolk and explore the area, and see where this takes us. We are bringing our 'Electro Alt Hop' show and the ‘Acoustic’ show everywhere and anywhere it can be played - including house concerts.
We will also be delivering workshops in music and self expression, and 25% of all monies received (from both gigs and workshops) is directed to ‘War Child’, who do an amazing work in aiding children who have suffered the horrors of war. We are under no illusions that its going to be difficult to get the tour moving with such a huge backlog of gigs at venues, but regardless of that we are going for it! If you are reading this and have UK contacts for both gigs & workshops we would gratefully receive any help.

If you would like to explore our website a bit further, and our music a bit deeper from old recordings, we invite you to listen to our new Mixtape 3 - Songs from ‘Rebel Heart Club’, our debut album recorded and produced in Tarifa in 2017. This is an acoustic statement that travels deep into several moods, times when Donald Trump was elected as president and Brexit referendum was a bout to happen, the future ahead seemed very blurry. All the songs embody a sentiment of unsettlement with a resolution of empowerment. At the time we were just going to record an E.P but the songwriting kept flowing resulting in the finished album.
You can hear it here.

❤️ Enjoy the music! ❤️
M & M

At the beginning of May, we had Ollie Winiberg from 'BBC Music Introducing' reviewing our song ‘Beat Manifesto’, which felt like a good one year circle as he was the one of first DJ's to play it on the radio last year, just. Amongst other things, he likened us to ‘The Prodigy’ - You can read it here:
Ollie Winiberg Review

To continue the month of transformation, we had a really good live concert at ‘Hot Box’ in Chelmsford promoted by ’Shakey Sessions’ together with ‘Rebelion Band'. It was a ‘Sell Out’, featured in local newspapers. We had an amazing night with a vibrant crowd, and a very welcoming crew at the venue. After 15 months without playing a gig, it was a life affirming night. Check out the pics on our facebook page.

Not sure it is where you are, but the weather here has been spectacular, so we went out to film and record a new song for our ‘Soapbox 21’ project. The song ‘Higher than the Mountains', like many others, has had a very interesting journey, starting with an a cappella seed. After different shape shifting, the song landed to the sound amd shape you can hear here:
Higher than the Mountains
Is it the end of the songs journey?
And last but not least, we have recently bought a motorhome to get out on the road from next Autumn on a tour! The tour will have an interesting twist. More news on that coming soon!

We are massively thankful to Shakey for booking us for the Opening Night of live music at Hot Box, sharing the night with Rebellion Band,
So if you can don’t miss out and support live music in Chelmsford. Many venues have struggled unimaginably during this period, they need your and our support now more than ever.
Remember to book your tickets in advance by following this link.
You can also follow Shakey Sessions to stay on the radar of the great music nights he sets up.

Now, talking about ‘Gravitate’ which has had a very short life playing live - we intend to play it as much as possible when we are given the chance - we also have the news that our new album is shaping up slowly but steadily. We started recording it last year before the pandemic started with Josh Abbott from ‘Peace Productions’. The truth is, we never had the intention of recording a new album, but as he made the process very easy end enjoyable, and as during the lockdown period we had time to write and dedicate to the songs and to build up a thirst to continue recording, after the lockdown we decided we were going to continue and record a new album. We have been mixing some of the songs, and we are very happy with the sound. It follows the same structure as ‘Gravitate’ but the songs have a different approach, texture and density. We are in no rush to release it yet as we have to record more songs, but yes, we are enjoying the process of getting deeper into the sound polishing it and experimenting with new mixes.

Thanks to you our independent label ‘Planet Road Records’ is growing. Everyday that goes on we feel more convinced that we did the right thing by stepping out of the main streaming services and pioneering our way of bringing our music to you. Through a more personable process, we also feel closer to our fans and listeners by seeing those subscriptions adding up.
This week we reached the number 250, and as we promised, our competition has a winner. it is Lorena Moya from Barcelona, who can now choose between several different T-SHIRT styles!

Before finishing, we would like to tease you saying that we have exciting news coming soon, very exciting news! Another month has gone by and our hope for better musical times is on the rise!
In preparation for mixing our new as yet untitled album we have been very busy these past weeks trying a few tricks re-mixing and mastering our last album ‘Gravitate’ with which we are very happy with the result and we hope you get a chance listen to it with the volume up!! (As you are reading this it is impatiently waiting to your left).
Last week we had the great pleasure to collaborate with Ian Cook from Blackthorn Studio, filming and recording a live performance of the song ‘She Runs with the Wolves’.
This song has a long story! In its basic shape and form it was written way back in the summer of 2014. Matt wrote the initial lyrics and acoustic idea whilst we were staying in an isolated spot in the mountains in Aragon, Spain. Then not long after we decided to walk the Camino de Santiago across Spain. The 750 kilometre walk gave us plenty of time & I have the memory of walking under the sun, surrounded by the mountains, and only seeing a dirt path in front of us, singing the melody a cappella trying different harmony ideas. This seed evolved to what you will hear very soon. The beats were created in Portugal, in our sabbatic pre-pandemic period, and the final shape and Tap dance steps were written in England last year. So we are very happy to release it as a performance video!

Something else new, is that on the 21st of May we have a GIG at Hotbox in Chelmsford!!! It was going to be live streamed, but we just received the amazing news that the venue will be opening for half of the capacity of people. We’ve been so detached from live music it sounds like dream come true! These past months we have been working on some new songs, one of them, ‘Everybody Move’ will be performed in the show. The seed of this song was created in Tenerife last winter, and has taken shape these past months in England. On top of that, we are extremely excited to announce that this gig will be shared with our new bassist’s in some songs. Doug Segal (pic inserted) has joined ‘Kid Hyena’ as a guest bassist. A musician with a very interesting background, you may have heard of him or even seen him performing his live mind-reading acts at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe or somewhere across the UK supporting amongst others Eddie Izzard.

Don’t forget to subscribe to ‘Planet Road Records’ to have unlimited access to all our music and videos. These pandemic times have made us look more deeply at how we distribute our music and this new label is our way of taking a more sustainable approach whilst also providing a better and more personalised platform for our fans.
After a few months now of being up and running we are closing in on 250 subscribers, when we hit 250 we will send a ’Gravitate’ t-shirt to one lucky subscriber.

...& For some light relief during the pandemic. We have created a new superhero for our times - go take a look at our 'Caped Music' Series on the <a contents="Soapbox 21 blog.
